A pellet stove is an efficient heater for almost any homes. It is relatively cheaper than the oil-run furnace in a sense that it uses a variety of inexpensive pellets such as wood and corn. It is also an eco-friendly alternative for warming up the household. Installing this appliance would usually require a pellet stove pipe kit due to its special ventilation system.

The pellet stove is normally installed horizontally. For this reason, you will need to purchase a pellet stove pipe kit. It generally includes a wall thimble, pipe, horizontal cap, wall bracket, tee, and pipe connectors. With this kit, all the necessary items are readily provided. It is a must-have for those who are rather inexperienced in DIY projects because the installation becomes relatively simpler. Several kits are now available in local hardware and online stores to cater to the demand for easier setups.

Purchasing a pellet stove pipe kit is a very good idea for installing the stove in a horizontal manner. Instead of buying all the materials separately, it is best if you could have them right from a single box. Also, you will never get to worry about the installation process being problematic due to the ill-assorted parts. In a stove pipe set, the assembly parts are all well-matched. An all-in-one kit will save you more time, effort and money as compared to purchasing the parts one by one.

To assemble a pellet stove pipe kit, you will need to identify first the location where you would like to install the appliance. Unless you are using a model that is fitted for use in an existing hearth, creating a vent is necessary for the pellet stove. You need to cut a hole on the wall for running the vent. The measurements on the interior and exterior sides must be carefully taken down before drilling the hole.

After the hole has been made, the wall thimble and brackets should be installed right into place. The wall thimble serves as an added insulation for the pipe as well as a patch when the hole appears to be a bit larger than required. The brackets, on the other hand, are attachments for the pipes that are installed on both the interior and exterior sides of the hole. They should be fitted according to the instructions, lest building code violations may be incurred.

I would like to take this time to tell you why people like pellet stoves so much. First of all, pellet stoves look really great in your home. They also give you that nice warm cozy fireplace feeling. There is nothing better when it snows out then curling up on the couch with your pellet stove blazing away. Below I will outline the main reasons why people have pellet stoves.

The first reason why I bought a pellet stove is to save money. I live in New England where the winters are very cold. The price of oil lately has gone way up, and it was getting quite expensive to heat my home all winter long. The last winter that I used oil to heat my home it cost me $2500. This was to keep my house at only 64° which was quite cold all winter. Once I got my pellet stove I heated my house for the winter for only $500. Keep in mind my house is 2200 ft.². With my pellet stove I was able to keep my upstairs at 72° and my downstairs at around 80° all winter. This sure beats freezing in my house with oil heat, set at 64° all winter long. It also saved me $2000 so it was a real no brainer.

Another great thing about having a pellet stove is that it looks really nice in your house. There are all types of pellet stoves. Some can be inserted into a fireplace. These are called inserts. Others are just freestanding and are vented through the wall. My pellet stove is freestanding in my living room and it looks really nice. There is nothing like having the lights off and the pellet stove running for that cozy warm fireplace feeling. This beats heating my house with oil any day.

Pellet stoves are also very good for the environment. Instead of using oil which puts carbon into the atmosphere you are burning wood. While the would does produce carbon when burned it is considered carbon neutral. The reason for this is because when a tree grows it uses carbon dioxide. So it takes carbon dioxide away from the atmosphere while growing and then produces carbon dioxide when burned. Hence the term carbon neutral. Another reason why it is good for the environment is because pellets are made from sawdust. In the old days this sawdust would’ve been thrown into a landfill and wasted. Now instead of being wasted it is used in a very productive way. This is recycling at its best and it is no doubt very good for the environment.
//-->

While all pellet stoves have fans that run inside of them they do not make your electricity bill go up much at all. When I first got my stove I was thinking these fans were going to cost me a ton on electricity. But when I got my electric bill, I really didn’t even notice the difference. The only problem with a pellet stove, is that if your power goes out the stove will not work. This is because it has electric fans and an electric auger which feeds the pellets into the burning chamber. Obviously a fireplace or a wood stove does not need electricity to run. Some people purchase generators just in case of a power outage in the winter so that they can still use their pellet stoves.

I have found a great way to clean out my pellet stove pipe by using a leaf blower. This method really gets all the soot out of the pipes. It also gets ashes and soot out of the back of the pettet stove as well. I try to do it after every 1/2 ton of pellets I burn in the stove.

All you need is a leaf blower that has a suction section on it. I am using an electric leaf blower that I got at Walmart for $40. To connect the leaf blower to the pipe the first thing you need to do is remove the rain cap from the end of the pipe. You need to make a seal onto the end of the pipe from the suction section of the leaf blower. Some people use PVC pipes as adapters, I just use a bunch of duck tape.

So pretty much all you need to do is attach the leaf blower to the end of the pipe and plug it in. You will see a lot of soot shoot out from the end of the leaf blower. Make sure it is not pointed near anything important because it would make a mess of it. This is grreat for cleaning out all the pipes in your chimney. You don’t need to take them all apart and put them back together to clean them anymore. It also cleans the exhaust of the stove itself. Just watch the video on this page to see it in action.

We are starting to come to the point of the year when most people are looking for wood pellets for sale. Here in the Northeast, once we get a few of those 50° nights, people start thinking about their pellet stoves. Of course like everyone else, I try to find the cheapest possible price for wood pellets. In this post I will outline some pointers for getting the best deal on wood pellets this season.

One of the best things you can do is buy your wood pellets in bulk early in the season. Usually prices increase as we get further into the winter. I have a 2000 ft.² two-story house and my pellet stove heats the whole house all winter long. This takes approximately 2 ½ tons of wood pellets. So early in the season you may be able to buy pellets for as cheap as 200 ton. Later on in the season the prices can jump all the way up to as much as $290 a ton.

Another important thing to do before you purchase a large quantity of wood pellets is to test out a few bags of as many different types as you can in your stove. Each person’s stove setup is unique, so no two pellets will burn exactly the same in different types of stoves, and in different types of places. This is why you need to test out a few different brands in your stove to see which ones burn the best before you go buying 2 tons of a particular brand. I personally like Somerset would pellets the best. I have tried at least 10 different brands of wood pellets in my stove. The Somerset wood pellets had very little ash, much less than any other brand. They also burned hotter than any other pellet I used. So I was very happy to go by 3 tons of Somerset pellets for $220 a ton last week.

So I would say basically you want to try to get the most bang for your buck when looking for wood pellets for sale. Of course you don’t want to pay too much for the pellets. On the other hand, you don’t want to have a whole winter go by burning crappy pellets that aren’t that warm and force you to have to clean your stove out every single day.

If you look around online you should be able to get a general idea of what prices are in your area. Make some calls and try out some different bags of pellets, and then bye the the best type for your stove in bulk as early as you can this year. You don’t want to wait too long when looking for wood pellets for sale because the price is only going to keep going up.

Pellet stove pipe installation is actually not near as complicated as you might think. Of course you should always check with your local fire department to make sure you are following your cities fire codes before installing any stove or fireplace. Besides that installing a pellet stove is actually pretty easy.

Every installation is different depending on the stove you have and what type of house you’re putting the pellet stove in. You can either go through the side of your house, through an existing chimney, or do a vertical rise through your ceiling. It all depends on what type of house you have and what type of setup you want. I recommend having at least a 3 foot vertical rise for the pipe no matter what type of setup you’re doing. The reason for this is because of the power of her goes out your stove exhaust fan shuts off. This will cause the smoke inside the stove to back up into your house if you are pipe has no rise to suck the smoke out of it. Just the rise in the pipe will create a vacuum effect without the exhaust fan running.

A few of the things you will need when performing a pellet stove pipe installation I will outline below. You’re going to need at least 9 feet of 4 inch diameter pellet stove pipe. If you are direct venting through the side of your house this is how much pipe you would need. Any other type of installation could require even more pipe.

You will need either a ceiling or a wall thimble. This is the piece that goes on the wall or the ceiling where the pipe goes through.

You’ll also need some joints, adapters, and a rain cap.

If you check out my store we have every product you could ever need for your pellet stove pipe installation. When you click on the products you will be taken to a page that provides complete instructions on how to use and assemble everything.

Pellet stove venting is the process That vents the fumes from the combustible pellets outside of your house. If you want to save some serious money when installing a new or used pellet stove, then you’re going to want to do the pellet stove venting yourself. Of course you need to check the fire codes in your area before installing any type of fireplace or pellet stove.

There are actually two different vents that are in a pellet stove. You have an air intake and an exhaust. The air intake does not always need to be vented outdoors. A lot of people just let the air intake take the air from inside the house for combustion. This is okay for drafty homes or older houses. If you have a brand-new very well insulated house, or are putting a stove and a trailer, then you are going to have to use an outside air kit.

An outside air kit does just what it says. It is a flexible piece of tube that goes through a wall thimble and outside. What it does is allow the stove to breathe the cold outside air instead of the air from within your house. This actually makes your stove run much more efficiently as well.

The exhaust pipe is the most expensive item you have to buy when pellet stove venting. Basically the exhaust pipe is usually 4 inches in diameter and goes from the back of the stove through a wall thimble and then outside.

For more information check out our page on pellet stove pipe installation. We now have a fully functional store where you can save over 50% as compared to the department stores.

Every once a month or so you need to clean out your pellet stove pipe if you want your stove to run well. The stove runs on fans that create air flow for the combustion of the wood pellets. If this air flow is restricted even a little bit then your stove won’t burn as well and will be less efficient. So I recommend cleaning your stove at least once a week or after every 5 bags of pellets.

You can use a shop vac to clean your stove and pellet stove pipe. This works decent but if you really want to get your pellet stove pipe clean then you may want to try the leaf blower trick. If you get an electric leaf blower and attach the vacuum part of it to the back of your pellet stove pipe you have an excellent cleaner. All you need to do is turn it on and then it will suck all the ash out of your pellet stove through the pipe and into the air. This is the very best and most thorough way to clean out your pellet stove and pellet stove pipe. It is also the easiest way to do it as well.

Hey guys just checking in again to write about Simpson Dura-Vent Pellet Stove Pipe. I have used this brand of pellet stove pipe in the past and I like it a lot. It is an insulated pipe and is very safe for interior as well as exterior use. You can get it in black and also galvanized colors.

One thing you need to watch for is the price you pay. If you go to a local stove shop then you are most likely paying too much for your pellet stove pipe. What you need to do is to shop around online for a reputable dealer of pellet stove pipe. You can often save as much as 50% off the local price of the pipe.
